Gabbiano Classico Chianti

The Vineyard
The fruit for the 2007 Chianti Classico was sourced from select hillside vineyards in the Chianti Classico region of Tuscany, with average altitudes of 250-300 meters (about 850- 980 feet) and an average vine age of 12-15 years. Due to the high altitude and the unique soil combinations of limestone, marly sandstone and clay, these vineyards produce intense and concentrated fruita classic characteristic of this unique growing region.
The entire growing season was marked by higher than average temperatures, which led to a rich and abundant fruit set. The summer months were warm with perfect conditions leading up to harvest, which allowed the grapes to develop and ripen evenly. The resulting handpicked crop was concentrated and of high quality. This vintage is considered to be excellent.
The Wine
The juice was macerated on the skins in stainless-steel tanks for 14 days at controlled temperatures of 28-30°C (about 82-86°F). For optimum extraction of color and flavor and enhanced texture, pump-overs were performed four times daily for 14 days. The wine was matured in large capacity French oak barrels for 5 months before bottling.
Winemaker's Notes
The 2007 Chianti Classico DOCG is a lovely complex wine - ruby red in color with hints of dark cherry on the nose. The palate is fresh with flavors of plum, violets and juicy cherries which are supported by fine and supple tannins that round out the mouthfeel. The finish is persistent and shows characteristic fresh acidity – Giancarlo Roman
